What is BINOM.INV function in Excel?

BINOM.INV function is one of Statistical functions in Microsoft Excel that returns the smallest value for which the cumulative binomial distribution is greater than or equal to a criterion value.

Syntax of BINOM.INV function

BINOM.INV(trials,probability_s,alpha)

The BINOM.INV function syntax has the following arguments:

  • Trials     Required. The number of Bernoulli trials.
  • Probability_s     Required. The probability of a success on each trial.
  • Alpha     Required. The criterion value.

BINOM.INV formula explanation

  • If any argument is nonnumeric, BINOM.INV returns the #VALUE! error value.
  • If trials is not an integer, it is truncated.
  • If trials < 0, BINOM.INV returns the #NUM! error value.
  • If probability_s is < 0 or probability_s > 1, BINOM.INV returns the #NUM! error value.
  • If alpha < 0 or alpha > 1, BINOM.INV returns the #NUM! error value.

Example of BINOM.INV function

Steps to follow:

1. Open a new Excel worksheet.

2. Copy data in the following table below and paste it in cell A1

Note: For formulas to show results, select them, press F2 key on your keyboard and then press Enter.

You can adjust the column widths to see all the data, if need be.
