What is SIN function in Excel?

SIN function is one of the Math and Trig functions in Microsoft Excel that returns the sine of the given angle.

Syntax of SIN function

SIN(number)

The SIN function syntax has the following arguments:

  • Number: The angle in radians for which you want the sine.

SIN formula explanation

If your argument is in degrees, multiply it by PI()/180 or use the RADIANS function to convert it to radians.

Example of SIN function

Steps to follow:

1. Open a new Excel worksheet.

2. Copy data in the following table below and paste it in cell A1

Note: For formulas to show results, select them, press F2 key on your keyboard and then press Enter.

You can adjust the column widths to see all the data, if need be.

=SIN(PI()) Sine of pi radians (0, approximately). 0.0
=SIN(PI()/2) Sine of pi/2 radians. 1.0
=SIN(30*PI()/180) Sine of 30 degrees. 0.5
=SIN(RADIANS(30)) Sine of 30 degrees. 0.5
