What is INT function in Excel?

INT function is one of the Math and Trig functions in Microsoft Excel that rounds a number down to the nearest integer.

Syntax of INT function

INT(number)

The INT function syntax has the following arguments:

  • Number: The real number you want to round down to an integer.

Example of INT function

Steps to follow:

1. Open a new Excel worksheet.

2. Copy data in the following table below and paste it in cell A1

Note: For formulas to show results, select them, press F2 key on your keyboard and then press Enter.

You can adjust the column widths to see all the data, if need be.

=INT(8.9) Rounds 8.9 down 8
=INT(-8.9) Rounds -8.9 down. Rounding a negative number down rounds it away from 0. -9
=A2-INT(A2) Returns the decimal part of a positive real number in cell A2 0.5
